Accessibility for your WooCommerce shop – checked, documented, declared.

Since 28 June 2025 online shops for consumers must be accessible (European Accessibility Act, BFSG in Germany, the Polish accessibility act). The EU Accessibility Kit checks your shop pages against WCAG 2.1 AA, shows every finding with its criterion and location, and generates the accessibility statement the law requires.

Legal basis: Directive (EU) 2019/882 · BFSG · EN 301 549 · WCAG 2.1 AA

§ 01

Who it is for

01

Shops with 10+ staff or €2 million turnover

The obligations have applied to them since 28.06.2025. Market surveillance authorities can request evidence; consumers and associations can report breaches.

02

Microenterprises that want to get it right anyway

They are exempt, but their customers with disabilities are not. An accessible checkout has fewer abandoned carts – for everyone.

03

Agencies with many shops

One scan per shop, one report per client, one statement per domain. Instead of manual checks with browser extensions.

§ 02

Free base version

Everything the law requires – no time limit, no locked features.

  • Scanner for home, category, product, cart, checkout and account pages: contrast, alt text, form labels, headings, keyboard focus, language, link text
  • Every finding with its WCAG criterion, location (selector) and an explanation of what to do
  • Accessibility statement as a page in the shop: standard, conformance status, known limitations, contact, enforcement procedure – in English, German and Polish
  • Checks the theme, checkout blocks and the most common plugins (sliders, cookie banners, reviews)
  • Result as a checklist in the WordPress admin, with date and version as evidence

§ 03

Pro

Removes the recurring work and provides the evidence for authorities, clients or agencies.

  • Scheduled scans (daily/weekly) with notifications about new findings – for example after a plugin update
  • One-click fixes: missing alt text from product data, form labels, focus outlines, language attributes, link names
  • PDF report per shop and period, with before/after – for clients and market surveillance
  • Agency view: all shops, open findings, deadlines; licence for 5 or 25 shops
  • Accessibility statement updated with every scan (date, status, limitations)

§ 04

How it works

  1. 01

The plugin opens your shop pages the way visitors see them and checks the rendered HTML against the automatically testable WCAG 2.1 criteria.

  2. 02

Checks run on your own server; no page and no customer data leaves the shop.

  3. 03

For criteria only a human can judge (whether alt text makes sense, logical order), the plugin provides a guided checklist with the affected elements.

§ 05

What a scanner can do – and what it cannot

Automated checks reliably find roughly half of all WCAG violations: contrast, missing labels, empty links, missing language, heading structure. Whether an alt text is meaningful or an order can really be placed without a mouse is not something a scanner judges – that is what the guided checklist is for. We say this plainly because a “100 % accessible” badge from a plugin would not be honest.

§ 06

Frequently asked questions

01Does the accessibility act apply to my shop?+

For e-commerce services to consumers: yes, since 28 June 2025 – unless you are a microenterprise (fewer than 10 employees and at most €2 million annual turnover or balance sheet total). Pure B2B shops are not covered. Germany implements it in the BFSG, Poland in the Act of 26 April 2024.

02Is an overlay widget with font-size buttons enough?+

No. Overlays change how the page is displayed for a visitor but do not fix missing labels, alt text or keyboard traps in the code. Authorities and associations judge them critically. The Kit checks and fixes the shop itself; you can offer a display helper on top.

03What must the accessibility statement contain?+

A general description of the service in an accessible format, how the requirements are met, the competent market surveillance authority and contact details. The plugin builds the page from scan results and your details and keeps it current.

04When will the plugin be available?+

It is in development. People on the waitlist are the first to get the launch date and the launch price – and can test the pre-release version in their shop.

05What does it cost?+

The base version is free and stays free. We publish the Pro price at launch; it will be in line with our other Pro plugins.
